Wow, fantastic sound!!!

Nice to have the real deal horn to play with. Our clarinet choir recently purchased a straight Leblanc contrabass so we know we'll have one for the group and not depend on a member having one or needing to borrow one. I have yet to give it a blow as it needs some adjustments to be ready to go, but looking forward to playing it. [One of our former members has both CA and CB Leblanc paperclips] 💯Awesome stand idea! We've been pondering how to rack our CB and the market ones are so darned expensive. Gives me some ideas to play with. Great to also get some info on the mouthpieces. Not so many options for contras. Cheers!

Rather than stooping to play it, why didn't you rest the instrument with its floor peg on its case or something else to bring it up? Lovely instrument, though. It looks new. (Edit: I see you do something like that later in the video!)

Would you still recommend this for a first Contrabass? I'm starting to consider buying a Contrabass, and if this is a good option it would certainly save me a lot of money (Uni student problems lmao)

It sounds like a pain. Shipping it when it doesn't play those bottom notes, and in a soft case that let it get dented. That company needs to get their act in gear. These things just sound like a Bb fart anyway. The so-called "contra alto" is as low as I would go. But they cost as much as a new car.

How's the instrument holding out after 2 years? Not a clarinet player at all (Oboe & assorted low brass are my normal instruments of choice), but I'm hoping to learn some day, and this has definitely piqued my interest

Your videos about this Contra have helped me to decide to actually get one. It's in the process right now. I'm thinking about getting a Clark W. Forbes San Francisco model mpc.

I don’t live in Germany. I’ve been in Switzerland since 2006 with a short hiatus in Germany. The Vandoren mouthpiece fits on a vintage Leblanc just fine. The bore size is also not problem. The shortening of the mouthpiece and the widening of the bore (barrel and opening of upper joint) were optimisation measures that may or may not be necessary from instrument to instrument. The new barrels by S&S have made a world of difference to the instrument. A Leblanc also has a resonance key for chalumeau G and clarion D that improves intonation. Vandoren reeds appear to be the way to go, although sawn off Eb reeds work well too. I play a Selmer sopranino saxophone ligature on Ab.

Rovner slim Sopranino ligatures work well.

The instrument sounds far more in tune than my friend's instrument who had a Ripa where the 12ths were 11ths.

I went for it. It's actually better than I thought it would be.

I can feel those vibrations from 12,000 miles away. I love watching videos about these unusual low-pitched instruments such as contrabassoons, bass and contrabass saxes, cimbassos etc. Great that there are musicians out there who want to play these unusual instruments.
